WATERVILLE – Sister Pauline (Germaine) Langelier, O.S.U., 94, died at Mount Merici Community Care Center on Sept. 14, following a long illness.

Sister was born in Lisbon, Jan. 1, 1910, the daughter of Antoine and Lumina Levesque Langelier and received her primary education in the Lisbon schools and St. Mary’s Parochial School in Lewiston.

In 1926, she entered the Ursuline Sisters’ Novitiate in Waterville and made her religious profession in 1929.

Having received her Normal School Certificate in Waterville, Sister began her long teaching career.

She later obtained degrees from St. Michael’s College in Winooski, Vt., followed graduate courses at Loyola University and earned a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision from Boston College.

Sister taught in several Catholic elementary schools in Maine, staffed by Ursulines including Notre Dame, Sacred Heart, and Mount Merici in Waterville, Holy Rosary in Caribou, Holy Family in Sanford, Notre Dame in Springvale, and St. John’s in Brunswick. She also taught several years at St. Patrick’s in Galveston, Texas.

She was also principal of the Sacred Heart School in Waterville and of St. John’s School in Brunswick, where she served for 33 years.

Sister retired from the classroom in 1988 at age 78, but continued to tutor, particularly foreign students and adults who wished to acquire proficiency in French or in English. In July of this year, Sister celebrated 75 years of religious profession.

Surviving relatives include a sister-in-law, Fernande Lanagelier, of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.

Sister was predeceased by three brothers, and one sister.
