On Sept. 14, I had the opportunity to tour the Great Falls building, which houses the Edward Little High School Drama Club’s costume and prop rooms.

I was aghast at what I saw. The sets and other drama supplies were moved from one spacious closet off the gymnasium (right next to the stage) to two smaller rooms on the second floor.

These items that were purchased by the drama club were literally tossed into these rooms, showing no respect for the hard work that went into creating these sets or the many fund-raising efforts put forth by the members to buy these supplies.

These students are diligent, responsible and very talented. They were discouraged by this act that the city of Auburn had orchestrated. These young adults, who commit so much of their free time to make EL drama productions so successful, need our support. They need a place to call home where they and their props can be assured safety.

The Drama Club has taught its members about leadership, working as a team, community service, encouraging their creativity with lights, sound, acting, singing and choreography. The members are using their talents to entertain this community and right now they need encouragement from the public because they are feeling like the city of Auburn does not care for the arts, their education, their future or them.
