SABATTUS – The Home Depot, Sabattus Central School and KaBOOM! together will build a state-of-the-art, 2,500-square-foot playground.

Build day is set for Thursday, Sept. 23, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., with the closing ceremony at 2:30 p.m. at the school at 40 Ballpark Road.

The project is a partnership between Home Depot and KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to building safe and accessible playgrounds in the neighborhoods that need them most. The Home Depot provided materials and numerous volunteers to support the project.

More than 50 pupils and parents designed the playground this summer. This playground will be used by the entire community, not just the 400 pupils at the school.

According a Gallup survey on playground use, commissioned by KaBOOM! and Home Depot last year, there are not enough safe playgrounds in communities across the country to serve the number of children who live in them. Despite the dramatic rise in child and adolescent obesity and the proven benefits for a child’s physical, social and emotional development, less that half of American children have a playground within walking distance of their homes for vital physical activity.

Through its partnership with KaBOOM!, Home Depot has helped build more than 180 new playgrounds in communities throughout the United States.
