NORWAY – Rumors of who will own the Trolley House restaurant have been flying for months, a current owner said Tuesday, but a real deal finally may be in the works.
Thomas Hill of Bethel has signed a purchase-and-sale agreement on the Main Street eatery. If all goes well, he will own the business within the next 60 days.
Hill, who has 23 years of restaurant experience and a degree in restaurant management from Cornell University, said Tuesday he has no plans to make any immediate changes at the establishment.
“We’re going to run with the menu exactly as it is and maybe experiment with specials,” he said.
If the specials are popular, he added, a new menu may start to emerge late this year.
Hill has spent the last six years in charge of food and beverages for two hotels at Sunday River. He said he has eaten at the Trolley House only a few times, but feels there may be room to make the menu more creative.
Current owners Beth and Joel Kane have been running the restaurant alone since September 2001, Beth Kane said.
Her husband was one of five partners who first opened the Trolley House in 1997.
“We plan to move on to catering and maybe even concessions,” Kane said. “We’re really not sure – it’s a new adventure for us.”
The business was put up for sale about a year ago, she said.
