RUMFORD – The Rumford area committee supporting a local dialysis center presented 10 checks Sunday, each in the amount of $206.57, to individuals receiving dialysis treatments. The money was to be used to cover expenses from the treatment.
The funding represented the balance remaining in the account established in 2001 when an effort was made to secure a center for the Rumford area.
Committee Chairman Dick Doherty, Vice Chairwoman Jean Doherty and others presented the checks Sunday in a ceremony at the Local 900 Hall.
In August, the remaining board members decided to disband the committee and to use the remaining funds to support patients who had been involved in the effort to establish the center.
A regional dialysis center was established in Wilton.
Jean Doherty, on behalf of the group, thanked state Sen. Bruce Bryant and state Rep. John Patrick for their involvement on the committee.
