INTERLACHEN, Fla. – Lawrence “Sonny” LaPointe Sr., 74, of Interlachen, Fla., formerly of Mexico, died unexpectedly Sept. 1.

Born in Rumford, July 16, 1930, he was the son of Joseph and Amanda (Sutton) LaPointe. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a P.O.W. for two and a half years and was awarded the Purple Heart and other medals of honor.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.

Survivors include two sons, Lawrence Jr. “Boo” and his wife, Jayne, of Dixfield and Michael, of Gorham; three daughters, Vicky Yarnish and husband, Tim, of Oxford, Theresa Kissick and companion, Cacy Cantwell, of Poland and Mechell Smith and husband, Patrick, of Buckfield; grandchildren, Larry III, Jennifer, Gary, Simon, Rachel, Oliver, Emma, Isaac, Mitchell and Levi; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Mateo, Austin and Timmy; sisters, Arlene Falls, of California, Theresa Robbins, of Dixfield, Patty Ware, of Florida, and Joan Hart, of South Portland; brothers, Leo, of Florida, Ovide, of California, Lewis, of Florida, and Danny, of Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, a son, Gerard, a grandson, Curtis Smith, sisters, Lillian and Juliette and brothers, Henry, Joseph Jr. and Johnny.

At Lawrence’s request, there will be no committal service.
