I agree with Sally Tessicini (Sept. 16). George W. Bush’s pre-emptive war has put America in harm’s way. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz never went to war. Why? Why aren’t their children in Iraq? Why aren’t congressmen’s children in Iraq? Why do 40-plus-year-old men have to go to war? Who’s minding their families? Why are there over 1,000 dead and 7,000-plus troops wounded? Never mind our dead and wounded children, that won’t stop Bush from invading Iran or any other country he “thinks” has weapons of mass destruction.

Bush said he “miscalculated.” Thank you, Mr. President, for doing a lousy job. I also “thank” him for spending billions of taxpayers’ dollars to democratize Iraq. Rumsfeld says freeing Iraqis is worth our children’s lives. Tell that to the mothers and children of our dead and wounded troops.

Did it ever occur to the president that the Arabs don’t want to be democratized? Did it ever occur to the president that the efforts to democratize Iraq are not worth just one of our troops? Did it ever occur to the president that we have 14 million children in America who go to bed hungry every night? When was the last time the president went to bed hungry?

Four more years of this president would be the most devastating four years in American history.
