SALEM – Sam Witherspoon tallied a pair of goals to lift unbeaten Mt. Abram to a 2-0 victory over Monmouth in boys’ soccer action Tuesday.
Witherspoon scored in the first half on a penalty kick that resulted from a hand-ball in the box. Chris Smith crossed the ball to Witherspoon in the second half, and Witherspoon booted it to the back of the net to score an insurance goal for the Roadrunners (7-0).
Sweeper Christian Talmage had a strong defensive game for Mt. Abram.
Oxford Hills 1, Medomak 0
WALDOBORO – Kyle Kennison netted an unassisted goal two minutes into overtime to lift Oxford Hills to a 1-0 triumph over Medomak in boys’ soccer action Tuesday.
Kennison took a shot from outside of the 18, and put it in the back of the net for the Vikings win. Oxford Hills (2-3-1) outshot Medomak, 24-9, and recorded more corners, 6-1.
David LaRoche made four saves to preserve the Oxford Hills shutout. Adam Mauro stopped 14 shots for the Panthers (0-5).
Mt. Ararat 2, Edward Little 0
AUBURN – Kyle LeDuc headed the ball into the net with one second left in regulation to give defending state champion Mt. Ararat a 2-0 victory over Edward Little in a KVAC boys’ soccer matchup Tuesday.
Tyler Plourde put the Eagles (6-0-1) on the board early in the first half. Ryan Vermette needed only five saves to notch the win.
B.J. Levasseur was a busy man in net for the Red Eddies (4-3), making 18 saves.
Hall-Dale 3, Lisbon 0
FARMINGDALE – Dan Vorner led a trio of goal-scorers Tuesday as Hall-Dale rolled past Lisbon 3-0 in a MVC boys’ soccer action.
Oryan Lahti and Eric Cooper also posted goals for the Bulldogs (4-1-2) to round out the final tally. Reid Durost made four saves while notching the win.
Mike Wilkins was a busy man in net for the Greyhounds, turning away 35 of 38 shots fired in his direction.
Leavitt 0, Brunswick 0
TURNER – Double overtime proved to be fruitless for Leavitt and Brunswick as they fought to a 0-0 tie.
It was a battle of the Brians as Leavitt goalie Brian Leighton and Brunswick goalie Brian Lemont each posted shutouts.
Leighton dealt with almost constant pressure, notching 23 saves for the Hornets (2-1-2). Leighton stayed in the game even after suffering a minor leg injury.
Lemont was very strong in the net for the Dragons (5-0-1), recording six saves to help keep his team unbeaten.
