LEWISTON – John L. Painter was nominated recently by voters in his district to be their candidate for the northern Lewiston District 74 seat in the Maine House of Representatives.
Painter, a Clean Election candidate, works as director of case management at Motivational Services in Augusta. He has dedicated his career to helping people in their rehabilitation and recovery from mental illness. He was a founding member of the state Chapter of the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services and has served as its chairman for four years.
Painter’s priorities are new job creation and community improvement for Lewiston through development of new trades and services and immediate relief to existing businesses.
He also believes in reducing the tax burden by lowering property taxes and wants better management of our environment and natural resources, especially the Androscoggin River and its tributaries. Of particular importance to him is improving the opportunities and desirability of Maine as a place to raise families and improving access to and affordability of education at all levels for the people of Lewiston.
Painter, an avid fly fisherman, has worked with Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection to improve the health of Lewiston’s Stetson Brook and is a member of the National Wildlife Federation and the Androscoggin Fish and Game Association. He is also a member of the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce.
