SKOWHEGAN – Maine Special Olympics held its annual golf tournament on Sept. 11 at Loon Cove.

Brian Richards, Bruce LaPlante and Trent Paradis earned gold medals in their divisions. These are unified games, which means that Olympians compete on teams with nondisabled participants and the scores are a combination of the participants. Don Macomber and Cyndy Paradis of Jay were on the team with the Olympians.

Brian and Trent have been playing with a unified group from Lewiston over the summer where they improved skills and gained a few tips. Local golf courses also open their courses one day each July to teach the Olympians. The local course were Martindale in Auburn and Sugarloaf.

There will be a golf scramble and pig roast on Saturday, Sept. 25, at Maple Lane in Livermore to benefit Special Olympics. Those wanting information can call Maple Lanes at 897-6666.

There will also be a tent sale at Ski Depot in Jay on Saturday, Oct. 9, to benefit Special Olympics.
