On Sept. 28, the town of Lisbon is putting a proposed noise ordinance up for vote by the citizens of Lisbon. The purpose of this ordinance is just another attempt by a small group of people to shut down the scramble track located at Longchamps. In a Sun Journal article Sept. 20, state Rep. Bob Berube, R-Lisbon, is quoted as saying the track “is singly why we’re here tonight.”

Is this a reason to endorse a new ordinance?

This ordinance is not for the benefit of the town and certainly not for the benefit of businesses or residents located in the town, but for the benefit of one small group of people.

I would encourage residents and business owners in the town of Lisbon to review this proposed ordinance carefully before voting on it. The ordinance could negatively affect what residents and business owners of Lisbon can or cannot do on their own property.

This is only the beginning. What next?

I would also encourage all citizens and business owners to attend the Sept. 28 special town meeting regarding this issue.

Editor’s note: Denise Longchamps is the wife of one of the owners of the scramble track.
