My father always taught me to believe only half of what you see and nothing of what you hear. After reading a couple of articles in the Sun Journal, one concerning Mr. Bennett and another Mr. Levesque, I would like to add: and nothing of what you read.

Mr. Bennett and Mr. Levesque have come up with nothing but negatives concerning the tax cap. It seems as if they are giving us an ultimatum. Defeat the tax cap, their wishes, or get nothing. That sounds like a one-way street.

Must they be reminded that we live in a democracy? That is a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people. That is, rule of the majority. And that’s a rule that no one should ever forget.

Over the years, millions of dollars of our tax money have gone to purchase a mill, restaurants, hotels and an ice arena, just to mention a few. Correct me if I am wrong, but every time the city assumes ownership of a property, we lose tax base. And all these purchases were supposed to help us, the taxpayers? Well, my tax bill surely doesn’t show that. The taxpayers of Lewiston cannot afford to live in a Donald Trump environment.

I would like to see our elected officials of the city of Lewiston take a positive approach to the tax cap, and come up with an amicable solution that would be taxpayer-friendly and good for the city.
