I listened to Sen. Kerry’s powerful speech Sept. 20, outlining in detail, and not for the first time, what he would do to try to fix George Bush’s colossal catastrophe in Iraq.

The next day, I looked for coverage of this important statement in the Sun Journal. On page one, I saw the headline about the latest beheading and, below the fold, a major story on Dan Rather’s irrelevant foolishness. On page two, I saw a long piece outlining the positions of Ralph Nader’s running mate and a story detailing Bush’s response to Kerry’s speech, but still no word about what Kerry really said. On page three, nothing; four? no. Five, six, seven? No. On page eight were the editorials. One attacked CBS News. And then, the only coverage of Kerry’s speech: right-wing columnist Cal Thomas’ vicious condemnation headlined “Kerry’s speech aids the enemy.”

That day’s Sun Journal was a sorry excuse for news and campaign reporting. When thinking people sit and wonder how such an incompetent, dishonest and thoughtless man as George Bush can still be even competitive in presidential polls, we hold you partly responsible.
