EAST DIXFIELD – Two Windham motorcyclists were arrested Sunday after a deputy allegedly clocked them going more than 100 miles per hour on Route 2.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy David Rackliffe arrested David Madsen, 32, and Jessica McGouldrick, 26, and charged both with attempting to elude a police officer and criminal speeding. They were both released on $8,000 unsecured bail and have to appear Nov. 24 in Farmington District Court.
Rackliffe said he was returning from East Dixfield to Wilton Sunday and encountered six motorcycles exceeding the speed limit. The motorcycles were heading toward Dixfield.
Rackliffe said he turned around and activated his blue lights as he attempted to stop the bikers. He observed them pulling away at a high rate of speed, he said.
“When I caught up to them, they were not intending to stop,” Rackliffe said.
He notified Franklin County dispatch and had them alert Dixfield police.
Two motorcycles had pulled over and stopped, but Rackliffe didn’t know at the time if they were part of the group because he could still see motorcycles ahead of him.
Rackliffe kept following the motorcycles, he said, and saw that two of them were traveling faster than 100 mph.
Rackliffe said he caught up with and followed a woman motorcyclist for nearly three minutes with his lights and siren activated before the biker stopped.
He said the woman was going more than 100 mph. Dixfield police stopped a man operating a motorcycle in Dixfield, he said.
Rackliffe said he has since learned that the two motorcycles that had stopped earlier in the pursuit were part of the larger group. The investigation is continuing, he said.
