After reading “Drive you crazy” about road construction on Sept. 21, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when I read the words: “Name a street, any street” that is having road work done.
I have lived on South Lisbon Road for 24 years. During those years, this road has never been reconditioned. Anyone who has driven on our street is aware of its extremely poor condition.
The residents of this area have contacted city officials. We have pleaded, we have begged for anyone to listen to our plight, to no avail.
When questioning why Dyer Road has been resurfaced numerous times in the recent past, we receive no credible answers from the “powers that be.” It is quite obvious that there’s money in “them thar hills.” That certainly appears to be a factor.
I mean no offense to my friends on Dyer Road. When told by a city official that it is based on traffic flow, my husband and I did a little experiment. One day, we each counted cars at intersections, one on Dyer, and one on South Lisbon. Between 7 and 7:30 a.m., I counted 212 cars on South Lisbon and my husband counted 15 cars on Dyer.
Every year we are told that we are on the list and every year the money gets used somewhere else. So this is my public outcry. We would all love to be inconvenienced by detours to get this road redone.
