FARMINGTON – Three accidents on Wilton Road within 2 hours Tuesday caused an estimated $16,300 in damages. They also kept Farmington police Officer Michael Wahl Jr. and emergency responders busy and slowed traffic.

No injuries were reported in the crashes.

The first accident, reported at 10:30 a.m., happened at the traffic lights at the intersection in front of Wal-Mart and Mt. Blue Shopping Center.

Brittanie Gragg, 17, of New Vineyard, was traveling north toward downtown Farmington; Burchell Morrell, 73, of Farmington, who was heading in the opposite direction, was in the left turning lane attempting to enter Mt. Blue Shopping Center, Wahl said.

Both drivers said they had a green light, Wahl said, but a witness behind Morrell’s vehicle said that Morrell had the green light arrow to turn into the shopping center.

Wahl estimated damage to Gragg’s 1996 Dodge at $3,500 and Morrell’s 2003 Mercury at $2,800.

In the second accident, reported at 12:30 p.m., two vehicles collided in front of the Big Apple across from Hannaford Plaza.

Ned Bewig, 23, of Hancock, was in the far right lane heading toward downtown Farmington, and Marilyn LaBelle, 69, of Kingfield, was coming out of the Big Apple parking lot. She said she didn’t see Bewig’s vehicle, Wahl said.

The officer estimated $3,500 in damage to Bewig’s 1990 Volvo station wagon and $2,000 to LaBelle’s 1988 Chrysler.

Fifteen minutes later, Wahl was covering the third accident reported at 12:45 p.m. just down the road from the second one, where a tractor-trailer and a car collided in front of The Franklin Journal.

Julie Moody, 20, of Industry, was in the right lane heading toward Wilton. A tractor-trailer operated by Guy Lamoureux, age unknown, of New Portland, was in the left lane heading the same direction, trying to move into the right lane already occupied by Moody’s vehicle, Wahl said.

A fire hydrant was also clipped off in the collision, Wahl said.

Lamoureux said he didn’t see Moody’s vehicle.

Wahl estimated that Moody’s 1995 Mercury sustained $3,500 in damage, and the 2005 Sterling truck registered to Poulin Grain of Vermont sustained $500 in damage.

Wahl also estimated $500 damage to fire hydrant.

No tickets were issued to operators in the three accidents, Wahl said.
