LIVERMORE – Selectpersons voted Monday night to appoint Ann Gile, administrative clerk, as the town’s new general assistance director, effective Oct. 1.
Gile will replace Faith Nichols of Livermore Falls, who is unable to continue due to personal commitments. The position pays $100 a month.
The board also approved a request from Fire Chief Randall Berry to have a work-study student from Livermore Falls High School assist him with the department paperwork.
The student will work three or four hours a week, assisting on such projects as developing a Mutual Aid Resources Guide, record-keeping for OSHA requirements, and maintenance records.
The board congratulated Berry on the $202,500 grant the department received from the Department of Homeland Security for the purchase of the new tanker/pumper.
Administrator Kurt Schaub reported that about 1,700 tax bills had been mailed last week.
“We continue to hear from a handful of taxpayers who believe their values are excessive but only one abatement has been filed to date,” he said.
Some taxpayers, whose property assessments went down, indicated they should have rebates from last year, he added.
Two computers and a laser printer will soon replace equipment in the office. They will be able to run the system developed by the town’s assessor.
The board accepted the bid of Dave’s Paving to do aprons on three driveways on Sanders Road and Gibbs Mill Road. Approval was also given to spreading gravel on Goding Road where two culverts have been placed, linking them together.
Code Enforcement Officer Richard Marble reported no progress on the Diaz clearing next to Long Pond or the Clardy junkyard on Round Pond. A December court date has been set in the Diaz case.
He also said he found new violations at the Long Pond subdivision off Waters Hill Road and will follow up on them.
