WILTON – The Monday Club, 112 years old this month, will meet for a noon luncheon on Monday, Oct. 4, at the Boiler Room in Wilton. Entertainment will be provided by four members who grew up outside the United States. They will relate personal anecdotes that provide contrast between cultures. Members may ask questions about the countries represented – Denmark, Scotland and Japan.

Vets’ advocate

FARMINGTON – The veterans’ advocate will not be at the Municipal Building in Farmington on Tuesday, Oct. 5. His next visit to Farmington will be from 9 a.m. until noon Tuesday, Oct. 19.

Craft fair tables

FARMINGTON – Farmington Emblem Club No. 460 will sponsor two craft fairs again this year and is reserving tables for crafters to rent for $15 for either fair. The first will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Elks Lodge, and the second on Dec. 4 at the same time and place. To reserve a table at either or both fairs, people may call Sharon at 645-4314 or Sylvia at 645-4092.

Hazardous waste collection

JAY – The annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2. Jay residents may bring hazardous waste items to the collection at no charge. The collection will be held at the Farmington Public Works garage this year, there will be no collection at the Jay Transfer Station. Products that may be brought to the collection include: pesticides, herbicides, old antifreeze and gasoline, household cleaning supplies, pool chemicals, roofing tar and oil-based paint. Any additional items that are marked poison, corrosive, toxic, flammable and volatile may also be brought. People are asked not to bring latex paint and alkaline batteries, as they are not hazardous.
