WESLEY (AP) – A utility truck collided with a tractor-trailer that overturned on a curve, leaving one person critically injured and causing an all-day tie-up on busy Route 9, state police said.

Duane Furge of East Corinth was airlifted to the Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he was in critical condition, troopers said.

Furge was driving a utility truck that encountered the oncoming tractor-trailer that had flipped and slid into his path shortly before 8 a.m.

The impact showered the area with breaded cod fish filets from the tractor-trailer.

The Wesley Fire Department had to use the jaws of life to remove Furge from his truck.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Shawn Dentremont of Nova Scotia, escaped serious injury and crawled out of his cab.

Route 9 was reduced to one lane throughout the day as state police investigated and as debris was removed from the highway.
