The close time on deer shooting was suspended by law Saturday until December 15th during which time it will be legal to shoot deer in nearly every county. Open time on moose is from October 15th to December 1st. The abundant presence of game indicates an unusually successful season. The open time covers the Northern and Eastern counties of the State where the big game is most plentiful. For some of the other counties there are special laws. In Androscoggin and York counties the season begins Oct. 1st and closes Oct. 31st. There is no open season on caribou in Maine.

Many of the 3,009 students enrolled at the University of Maine come from the Twin Cities and nearby towns, according to a list released yesterday by the school. University officials expect the total enrollment to climb to 3,060 student s when those taking the two-year agricultural course have registered. About 575 of the students are veterans of the Korean War and 46 are veterans of World War II.

The Lewiston-Auburn area might not be able to draw and hold a professional art gallery but during the past week resident’s have been offered an exhibit by area artists proving that art is alive and well in the twin cities and only looking for a place to show. Park Street Exhibitions, the gallery located at Craftschool in downtown Lewiston, is displaying works by Pam Boyer, Bob Lessig, Paul Heroux, Michael Mardosa and George Osler until Nov. 3. Arranged by Robyn Holman, associate director of Craftschool, the show is the first of many the gallery hopes to present involving people in the community. A beer and pretzel reception held Sunday evening officially opened the show.
