I would like to know why more cannot be done about filthy living conditions that some animals live in.

I’m referring to the case in Andover (Sept. 25). Some say as long as animals are being fed, that’s all that matters. Not so. If an animal is in filthy living conditions and there are more than five or 10 cats at that place, something ought to be done, before things get out of hand and the animals begin to multiply. Then the 10 cats turn into 20 or more cats.

Feeding them is not good enough. They have to be spayed or neutered. If a person can’t do that, then he shouldn’t have any animals at all. You can’t blame the animals. It’s not their fault.

Adult cats need homes just as well as the kittens. Some animals are scared and it will take time to adjust if they get adopted.

This isn’t the first case of poor living conditions for an animal. Why does it have to go so far and end up like the case in Andover? Then they have to be put down and that’s a shame. Filthy living conditions should be a crime. The owner should pay more than just a fine. Jail time would be good. Just feeding them and calling it good is not good enough. That should be the law everywhere. Then things like that would not happen.
