NEWARK, Del. (AP) – Niquan Lee scored his fourth touchdown of the game with 45 seconds left to put Delaware ahead as the Blue Hens broke school records and defeated Maine 43-38 on Saturday.
Kyle Campbell batted down a Maine pass to the end zone as time expired.
Sonny Riccio, who led a Delaware attack that amassed 560 yards of total offense and scored six touchdowns, set school records with 33 completions, 51 pass attempts and 13 consecutive completions during the first half.
Justin Long also set a school record with 16 receptions, while his 236 yards were second all-time. Lee tied a school record with four rushing touchdowns.
The Blue Hens (4-1, 3-0 Atlantic 10) led 37-28 with 14:44 remaining after a 1-yard run by Lee, but Maine quarterback Rob Whitcomb threw to Christian Pereira for a 10-yard touchdown pass to make the score 37-35. After Delaware punted on its next possession, Maine (2-2, 0-1) drove to the 3-yard line before settling for a 21-yard field goal by Mike Mellow to take its first lead of the game at 38-37 with 7:12 remaining. The Blue Hens were forced to punt on their next possession but held the Black Bears to a three-and-out to get the ball back at the Maine 47 with 3:34 left.
Delaware had a third and five at the Maine seven yardline when Lee rushed for a first down to the one, and the following play he plowed into the endzone to put the Blue Hens up for good.
