LEWISTON – Joseph Samuel Deschaine, 77, of 45 Autumn Lane, Lewiston, died Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Van Buren on Feb. 22, 1927, he was the son of Xavier and Alice Thibodeau Deschaine.
On May 13, 1950, he was married to the former Simonne Allen in St. Mary’s Church in Lewiston.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 40 years by the Enterprise Foundry in Lewiston.
A member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Sabattus, he lived his life dedicated to others.
He generously gave a helping hand to those in need with the expectation of nothing in return.
He had a deep love of family, especially for his wife Simonne, who was the world to him. He had a love of God and inspired others to stay on the path of faith.
After retirement, Joseph acquired a passion for carpentry and shared his talent in the creation of holiday decorations.
Each year he took pleasure in sharing the bounty of his garden at harvest time.
He lived a life of honesty and unselfishness, and will forever be regarded by those he leaves behind as a truly wonderful man.
Survivors include his wife of Lewiston; a son, Michael and his wife, Susan, of Dresden; two daughters, Diane Deschaine of Augusta, and Nancy Toutain and her longtime companion, Michael Tremblay, of Sabattus; three brothers, Leo and his wife, Pauline, of East Hartford, Conn., Omer of Windsor Locks, Conn., and Guy of New Gloucester; a sister, Corinne and her husband, Frank Wade, of Greenfield, Mass.; four grandchildren, Benjamin Deschaine and his wife, Amy, Thomas Deschaine and fianc, Kathryn Spear, Matthew Toutain, and Adam Toutain; a great-grandson, Maxwell Deschaine; and eight half-brothers and sisters, Joseph Armand and his wife, Monique, of Holden, Merilda and her husband, David Plourde, of Madawaska, Marthe and her husband, Stephen Hammond, of Scarborough, Paul and his wife, Patty, of South Portland, Marianne Deschaine of North Carolina, James and his wife, Beverly, of Van Buren, John and his wife, Lisa, of Van Buren, and Armande and her husband, Reynold Pelletier, of Van Buren.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Eva Martin and Lina Martin; and three brothers, Gilbert, Adrian, and Oswald.
