WILTON – Selectmen will decide whether they will file a Small Claims Court action to recover deductible damages done to a police cruiser when they meet Tuesday. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Town Office.

In August, a cruiser was taken from the police station one night, driven off the road and damaged. The person who took the car was arrested and later charged, Town Manager Peter Nielsen said.

Officials will also discuss the process they will use to hire a new police chief. Longtime Chief James Parker recently retired, and Officer Ed Leahy is serving as interim chief.

At the board’s last meeting, Maine Chiefs of Police Association President Robert Schwartz met with officials to discuss how the association can help with the hiring process. The association would charge $1,000 to assist with the process. Selectmen will decide whether to hire the association.

In other business, officials will discuss whether to amend the town’s Parking Ordinance to improve safety on Main Street near the Goodspeed Street bridge. The bridge provides access to the town’s library and an attorney’s office.

Selectmen will also discuss equipping the town’s salt truck with plow gear and consider appointing an alternate to the Planning Board. They will hear a budget proposal from Channel 11, Mt. Blue Community Access TV.
