NORWAY – The week of Oct. 4 is National Fire Prevention Week when schools, fire departments and other organizations will fight fire through education.

Students will talk about fire prevention, the Norway Smoke House will be demonstrated at several schools and firefighters will visit. The week’s events will culminate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, with an open house at the Norway Fire Station.

Fire departments from Norway, Oxford, Hebron, Otisfield, Paris, Harrison, Waterford and West Paris will join with Pizza Hut, the Child Health Center, Maine Safe Kids and the Masons to offer information and activities focused around fire safety and other child safety issues.

Among the events for the day will be, weather permitting, a LifeFlight visit, demonstrations with the Norway Fire Department’s Smoke house, the WMD Strike Team 4 and Waterford’s “Fire Blaster” training trailer. The day will offer children’s games, door prizes and free refreshments.

Other activities will include child passenger safety seat inspections by the Oxford County Chapter of Maine Safe KIDS and the Child Health Center, finger printing by the Masons and information from the DARE team.
