Affleck takes it to Damon
Ben Affleck poked fun at Matt Damon on the season debut of “Saturday Night Live,” claiming his friend’s comments about stars who only take roles in potential blockbusters were aimed at him, reports IMDB.com.
In a commentary on Weekend Update, Affleck launched into an attack on Damon for comments he allegedly made about actors who take on only the big roles.
“Listen bro, we all know who you’re talking about,” he joked. “It’s been kind of a mainstream year for me; OK, stop rubbing it in. I get halfway through “Paycheck,’ I went to ask the theater manager for my money back and I remembered I was in it. I know you’re not into stardom, but help me out here. I can’t seem to recall which Chekhov play “The Bourne Supremacy’ is based on. I’m sure they’ll be studying “Ocean’s Twelve’ in the film classes at USC, believe me, because “Ocean’s Eleven’ left so many unanswered questions.”
Affleck also poked fun at ex-fiancee Jennifer Lopez, adding, “You wait till you lose your mind and make two movies in a row with your girlfriend.”
Affleck concluded his joke rant by riffing on Damon’s friendship with George Clooney: “By the way, street cred, how’s Clooney’s yacht treating you? Is there a phone on that thing? I’ve been trying to call you for three weeks.”
In other “Saturday Night Live” developments, the show unveiled the newest face on “Weekend Update” on its season premiere Saturday. Cast member Amy Poehler joined Tina Fey for the first all-female “Update” team in the show’s history. Poehler replaces Jimmy Fallon on the segment. Fallon left in May after six years on the sketch-comedy show. Fallon and Fey had read the fake news together since 2000.
“Saturday Night Live,” now in its 30th season, airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. on NBC. This week’s show will be hosted by Queen Latifah, who will also be the musical guest.
Elton gives Madonna lip
It seems Elton John is not a Madonna fan.
Taking the stage at a music awards show Monday, John accused the queen of pop of lip-synching and said he was astonished she had been nominated for best live act, reports ABC News.
“Since when has lip-synching been live?” John said. “Anyone who lip-synchs in public onstage when you pay 75 pounds ($134) to see them should be shot. That’s me off her … Christmas card list,” he added. “But do I give a toss? No.”
Madonna’s spokesman Liz Rosenberg refuted John’s allegations.
“Madonna does not lip-synch nor does she spend her time trashing other artists,” Rosenberg said in a statement. “She sang every note of her Re-Invention tour live and is not ashamed that she was well paid for her hard work.”
John, 57, was receiving a songwriting award at the Q awards, sponsored by a British music magazine. Madonna, whose world tour stopped in Britain in August, did not win the best live act award. It went to the British band Muse.
John has never been afraid to speak his mind. Last month he made headlines in Taiwan by telling photographers they were a bunch of “rude, vile pigs.”
