GORHAM – Junior co-captain Katie Welch of the University of Southern Maine women’s tennis team has been selected as the Little East Conference Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 27 through Oct. 3.

Despite the team compiling a 1-2 record last week, Welch posted a 3-0 mark at No. 1 singles and a 2-1 record with junior Catie McCarthy at No. 1 doubles. For the season, Welch improved to 7-3 in singles and 6-4 in doubles.

Curran-Cloutier inducted into Norwich University Hall of Fame

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Maureen Curran-Cloutier of Lewiston is one of eight former Norwich University students who will be inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame during an Oct. 9 ceremony. Curran-Cloutier, a 1994 graduate of Norwich, was a member of both the women’s soccer and basketball teams.

Heikkinen Webb named new GM of Cutters

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Marie Heikkinen Webb, the team’s first employee and a veteran of nearly a decade in professional baseball, was promoted to general manager of the New Haven Country Cutters Thursday.

“I am excited about the future of the Cutters although all of us recognize there continues to be a steady diet of hard work ahead of us in convincing the entire county that the organization is one the region’s assets,” said Heikkinen Webb, a graduate of Livermore Falls in 1993.

Heikkinen Webb will be one of the only four women currently holding the title of General Manager among the more than 200 affiliated and non-affiliated minor league teams in the United States and Canada. The new general manager will be embarking on her 10th season in minor league baseball since graduating from the University of Massachusetts in 1997. Her baseball experience includes working for Triple-A Ottawa Lynx, the Portland Sea Dogs, the Vermont Expos, and the Eastern League office.
