AUBURN – Remember in July when an armless, naked and crumbling lass was swiped from the back of a truck on Leeds Street? And how her owners said they would not rest until they got her back?
Well, the purloined mannequin is still missing and time is running short. The people at A&B Costumes have big events planned and they need the star of their show.
“We’re still on the lookout for our brown-eyed beauty,” said Jennifer Garrigan, who helped set up A&B Costumes at 155 Center St. “We haven’t given up.”
Garrigan works with young people with disabilities. Her specialty is preparing Halloween costumes for those who love the holiday but can’t afford to get decked out.
A costume fashion show is planned for Thursday at the Carriage House on Lisbon Street in Lewiston. A week later, the costume shop itself will hold a grand opening at its Center Street location. A dance is planned a week after that, on Oct. 22.
The brown-eyed, nose-less mannequin was supposed to be the star of the shows. Now, a dummy double may be required to take her place.
A month after the mannequin was stolen, a local man stepped forward to donate another. The new dummy is a blue-eyed, teen figurine who will be featured prominently at the fashion show.
Do not expect the glitzy, elegant form you might see in a Macy’s display, however. Keep in mind Garrigan’s line of work and the looming Halloween season. The blue-eyed beauty will be decked out during the noon fashion show in the ghastly hues of the morgue.
“She’ll be wearing a toe tag,” Garrigan said.
Meanwhile, A&B Costumes is offering a free rental to anyone who can provide information leading to the recovery of their coveted mannequin.
