AUBURN – Twin City Council 160, United Commercial Travelers of America, will meet at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Odd Fellows Hall on Elm Street. A potluck supper will follow the meeting.

On Saturday, Oct. 16, Twin City Council will welcome the Grand Council of New England at the annual visitation held at The Ramada Inn. Present will be Grand Counselor Charles Cavallaro Sr. and his suite of officers. Social hour will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. with dinner served at 7.

Legion session

AUBURN – Alden M. Gayton Post 31, American Legion, and Auxiliary, 426 Washington St., will hold a membership meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11.

DAR meeting

AUBURN – Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the home of Mrs. Edward Hodgkin, 72 Old Carriage Road. Bring a bag lunch; dessert will be provided. In keeping with the theme of American heritage, members will view a historical video after the business meeting. All prospective members are welcome.

AUBURN – All pregnant women and nursing mothers are welcome to attend the next La Leche League meeting to be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at 102 Bennett Ave.

Babies are welcome. All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion in addition to the scheduled topic, “Breastfeeding: Great Beginnings,” which will focus on preparing for nursing baby at birth, establishing and maintaining breastfeeding and adjusting to family life with a new baby.

OES visitation

WALES – Lakeside Chapter 60, Order of the Eastern Star, will celebrate “That Old Black Magic Called Love” at the meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, in the Wales Grange/Masonic Hall, 322 Centre Road.

The chapter’s official visitation will be performed by Maine Worthy Grand Matron Alice P. Webber.

The District Traveling Award, the yellow school bus won at Golden Sheaf Chapter in New Gloucester, will be awarded to the chapter with the highest number of members in attendance.

Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.

WLU speaker

AUBURN – Liz K. Sheehan, assistant curator of academic and exhibition initiatives at the Bates College Museum of Art, will speak to the Woman’s Literary Union, 19 Elm St., at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14. Titled “Marsden Hartley: Interests and Influences,” the talk will cover the Lewiston native’s growth into one of America’s preeminent modernist painters.

MS support group

Cleaning chimneys

WALES – The Wales Fire Department will clean chimneys for residents. Any resident wishing to have their chimney cleaned should contact Chief Al Siderio at 375-4304. The offer may not be available to all residents due to the height and design of the chimney. People should call before Saturday, Oct. 16.

Chimney cleaning

SABATTUS – The Sabattus Fire Department will once again clean chimneys this fall to help raise funds for the department’s Oak Hill High School scholarship and other department needs.

The service has proven helpful to the department in the past in that it helps raise needed funds and it helps reduce the number of chimney fires each winter.

Sabattus residents wishing to have their chimneys cleaned can call Jim Campbell at 740-5602, Ken Fisher at 577-1947 or Chief Bob Scott at 375-4526 to set up an appointment. Cleanings will continue until the first snowfall. Voluntary donations will be appreciated.
