AUGUSTA – The Kennebec Land Trust fall and winter program schedule follows:

Macdonald Woods autumn walk from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9. The easy autumn walk will be an introduction to the 100-acre Macdonald Conservation Area. The land preserves wildlife habitat and open space for recreational uses and adjoins the adjacent 100-acre Readfield Town Forest. The hike will include a discussion about the history of the property and future stewardship and trail plans. Vaughan Woods work day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23. Join the Hallowell Conservation Commission, trust members and neighbors for the annual Vaughan Woods community work day. Volunteers will remove the barbed wire from the field perimeter and spread wood chips and clear brush.

There will be a work crew fixing one of the stone culverts under the supervision of Dan Ucci, a local stonemason. Bring gloves, wire snips for cutting barbed wire, shovels and cutters. Contact Gerry Mahoney, Hallowell Conservation Commission, 622-9659, for more information.

Leaders will be Andrew Fisk,Vaughan Woods steward, and Hallowell Conservation Commission members. Those going should meet at Hall Dale High School parking lot, Maple Street, Hallowell, at 9 a.m.

Curtis Homestead work day with the Maine Conservation Corps from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23. Join the Maine Conservation Corps, trust members and stewards for a trails work day on the 360-acre trust Curtis Homestead Conservation Area. Volunteers will have the opportunity to see the new visitor kiosk, three new trails and an overlook of the Monmouth/ Leeds Bog. Bring hand saws and shovels.

Leaders will be Tom and Donna Mickewich, Curtis stewards, and the Maine Conservation Corps. Participants should meet at Curtis Homestead Conservation Area, Bog Road, Leeds, at 9:30 a.m.

Walter W. and Alice B. Reynolds Woods Stewardship work day from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, Oct. 24. Join trust volunteers as they begin stewardship and trail work at the Walter W. and Alice B. Reynolds Forest in Sidney. The 35-acre woods protects 2,000 feet of stream frontage with waterfalls. Volunteers will clear invasive plants and trash and will begin developing the parking area and trails. For more information and directions, call 377-2848.

Macdonald Woods Stewardship work day from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14. Join trust members and friends for a morning work session at the woods in Readfield and Wayne. Those attending will clear hiking and cross country skiing trails, remove invasive plants and clear around the Seldon Smith Homestead Foundation. Bring gloves, shovels and loppers.
