BOSTON (AP) – If the Boston Red Sox beat the Anaheim Angels in the playoffs and advance to the American League Championship series, it’s going to be harder to get a newspaper in some parts of the city.

If the Sox advance, Boston police want newspaper vending boxes removed from a number of areas known for rowdy sports fans spilling into the streets, including college students.

Spokeswoman Nadine Taylor-Miller said it would be a routine precaution taken for “public safety reasons.” She says that is the boxes are removed, they can’t be kicked, removed, tossed around — or used to hurt anybody.

She said removing the boxes has been standard practice for every major event since 2000.

Rioting in Boston after the New England Patriots Super Bowl victory last year left one man dead and another seriously injured.
