Open house
RUMFORD – The Fire Department will hold its third annual open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9. Residents can meet the local firefighters and see the new pumper truck and the equipment used. There will be fire prevention brochures, tours, door prizes, judging of the poster contest, fire safety videos, balloons, and fire helmets and badges for the kids. Low-pressure fire hoses will be set up to shoot at a target. A hose rolling contest will be provided by the Rumford Junior Firefighters. There also will be an opportunity to play in a blanket of foam more than 4 feet deep. Hot dogs will be provided by Bickford Carpentry from 11 a.m. until sold out. Other refreshments will be served. Guests will include Smokey Bear and Sparky the fire dog.
Prayer breakfast
DIXFIELD – The next Tres Dias prayer breakfast will be 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, in the Congregational Church. Participants are being asked to take their own breakfasts, coffee will be provided. For more information, people can call 364-8083.
Cemetery items
DIXFIELD – The town Public Works crew will be preparing the cemeteries for winter. The town is advising people that any decorations left at the cemeteries after Wednesday, Oct. 13, will be disposed of.
Cemetery request
MEXICO – The Farrington Morton Cemetery Association is requesting that all artificial flowers, planters and containers be removed by Friday, Oct. 15, so that it can prepared for the winter.
Basketball teams
DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Recreation Department is looking for basketball players interested in forming a league. Youngsters interested in a third- and fourth-grade girls’ league or a first- and second-grade boys league may call 562-4492 and leave a message.
