I support the move to import drugs from Canada at a lower cost to Maine taxpayers. These drugs were in many cases made in the United States, so these drugs were made under the eyes of the Food and Drug Administration. In addition, the drugs would not be purchased from just any company. The company would be carefully selected to assure the quality and safety of the drugs.
However, none of these reimportation programs would be necessary if states were allowed to negotiate directly with prescription drug companies to lower their drug prices. Reimportation is only a quick fix; in the long run it may not be the best solution. But until another program is put into place something has to be done, and soon, to help those who need expensive prescription drugs to live out their lives happily.
