PERU – Eugenie P. “Genie” Magoon, 68, died Thursday, Oct. 7, at her home affectionately known as “Genie’s Cabin,” surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on Oct. 31, 1935 in Mexico, a daughter of Charles O. and Desneige (Legare) London.
Genie attended Peru Elementary School and Stephens High School in Rumford and went on to receive her high school diploma at the age of 50.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Tim Magoon, on Dec. 5, 1953.
She was dedicated to God, her husband, Tim, of 50 years, and her family, and deeply enjoyed the companionship of her friends and church family.
She was a woman of strong will, conviction and faith. Genie was a devoted daughter and enjoyed every moment talking with her parents, especially her dad, about wildlife, nature and sunsets.
She also enjoyed spending time at her cabin with her beloved husband and their two dogs “Tonka” and “Muffin.” They also enjoyed feeding and watching the wildlife, often filming the natural and at times mischievous antics of the deer, skunks, bears, coyotes, coons and birds.
She was an avid artist and enjoyed fishing, hunting, nature and shopping at the “Fashion Bug.”
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Elmer K. “Tim” Magoon, of Peru; three daughters, Grace R. Packard, and husband, Steve, of Peru, Peggy Sue Masalsky, and husband, Steve, of Mexico, Felicia Rose Biggs, and husband, Kevin, of Tualatin, Ore.; three sons, David C. Magoon, and wife, Janet, of Peru, Richard K. Magoon, and wife, June, of Rome, N.Y., and Clinton T. Magoon, and wife, Linda, of Lewiston; four sisters, Carol Lafleur, and husband, Bill, of Rumford, Antoinette Probert, and husband, Ken, of Perry, Charlotte Davis, and husband, Jack, of Peru, and Marion Russell, and husband Brian, of Rome, N.Y.; one brother, Samuel L., and wife, “Skeets,” of Gilbert, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her mother, Desneige London, on Sept. 20, 2004; and father, Charles O. London, on July 31, 2004.
