LEWISTON – Helen J. Chicoine, 84, of 12 Coburn St., Lewiston, died Friday, Oct. 8, at Central Maine Medical Center.
She was born in Auburn on Aug. 10, 1920, the daughter of Olin and Pearl (Hinds) Taylor, and had been a resident of this community all of her life.
She had owned and operated Helen’s Lodging Home in Auburn for 26 years until her retirement in 1985. She was educated in the Auburn school system and was a graduate of Edward Little High School. She was a past president of the Ladies of Calumet Club of Augusta and also a member of St. Mary’s PTA.
She was the widow of Lionel Chicoine, whom she married on Sept. 12, 1938, and he died in 1995.
She is survived by three sons, Lionel J. “Leo” Chicoine Jr., and his wife, Joan, of Gardiner, Gary J. Chicoine, and his wife, Maureen, of Lewiston, and Craig J. Chicoine, of Auburn; two sisters, Phyllis Smith, of Bethel, Joyce King, of St. Fredericksburg, Md.; one brother Edward Taylor, and his wife, Anita, of Greene; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Sumner and Owen Taylor; and two sisters, Arlene Johnson and Doris Langelier.
