I would like to comment on the upcoming vote on bear hunting. I have hunted and fished in Maine most of my life (a very long time). I don’t consider the present method of killing bears to be “hunting.”
To place food in an area known to be frequented by bears and then watch for the bears to arrive and eat, and then shoot them. Hunting? I don’t think so.
How about allowing dogs to chase a bear until it is exhausted and surrounded or chased up a tree, and then shoot it? Hunting? I don’t think so.
Set a trap and have a bear caught by his leg and stay there suffering until the hunter arrives to kill it? Hunting? I don’t think so.
I am not against bear hunting, but there has to be a more humane way than the present method. I hope all who may read this will join me in a yes vote on the fair bear hunting issue.
