JAY — Senior quarterback Justin Wells threw for two touchdowns as Jay rolled to a 33-0 shutout against Madison in a Class C Campbell Conference game on Friday.
It was the third shutout at Taglienti Field for the unbeaten Tigers.
Jay (6-0) moved the ball at will as Wells was 15-of-19 for 238 yards. Wells has thrown nine TD passes and no interceptions this season. He has 40 career TD passes.
The Tigers got things going in the second quarter, by stopping Madison two times in the red zone. Ryan DiPompo intercepted Bulldog QB Josh Paine in the end zone and also stopped a drive at the eight-yard line. The Tigers scored 12 point on the ensuing possessions.
Joel Ouellette ran in from 15 yards and Wells threw a 12-yard TD pass to DiPompo. Wells spread the wealth around, connecting with five different receivers. Andrew Deering caught three passes for 70 yards.
“The difference this season has been game preparation,” Wells said. “We work hard all week long. Tonight, we kept Madison off balance with our play selection.”
Madison (2-4) had success running the ball, with Woody Noyes (27 rushes, 148 yards) and Tony Fortin (56 yards).
“We hit hard defensively,” Ouellette said. “Madison likes to use the option and pitch outs to get Noyes outside. We tried sealing off the outside and made him run inside.”
Jay scored on the opening drive of the third quarter, when Mike Nemi ran in from 14 yards out. Following a DiPompo interception, Wells found DiPompo in the right corner of the end zone.
Ouellette caught a five-yard TD pass and McCourt had a three yard run.
“There’s always room for improvement,” Wells said. “We came out after halftime, thinking the score was 0-0.”
