YORK – Margaret Bliss Benson, 79, died at Harbor Home in York, on Oct. 6, after a long illness.
Born Nov. 25, 1924, in Schenectady, N.Y., Peggy grew up in Winchester, N.H., and later lived in Northampton, Mass., Windsor Locks, Connecticut, Reading, Mass., Wells, Oxford and Poland. Her favorite residence was her cottage on Thompson Lake in Oxford.
Her determined independence and the grace and dignity with which she met her last challenges were an inspiration to the many who adored her.
They include her three children, Frank Robert Benson, of Taipei, Taiwan, Kathleen Benson Haskins, of New York, N.Y., and Craig Alan Benson, of York; her daughter-in-law, Andrea Benson; her son-in-law, James Haskins; three grandchildren, Michael Craig Benson, Marcus Ellis Benson, and Margaret Emily Haskins; and two sisters, Jane King Bowers, and Dorothy Doolittle – nearly all of whom visited her in the last month of her life.
