NORWAY – The Last Trip to Canada is the new name for the RxExpress set for Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 13 and 14, co-sponsored by the Oxford County Democratic House and Senate candidates and the Maine Council of Senior Citizens.

“With the announcement of Gov. Baldacci’s new initiative, Rural Rx, involving reimportation of Canadian prescription drugs, Maine’s seniors and others will soon be able to access lower priced prescriptions from their local pharmacies,” said Sen. Bruce Bryant on behalf of the Oxford County Democratic candidates.

Candidates supporting the trip, in addition to Bryant, include Rep. John Patrick, House candidates Roy Gedat, Terry Hayes, Linda Petrie, Tim Carter, Kathleen Dougherty, Margaret Reimer, Marlee Turner and Senate candidate Marge Medd.

Neena Quirion of the Maine Council of Senior Citizens heralded the new initiative, which will bring an end to the five years of bus trips to Canada to call attention to the issue of high cost prescriptions and the effect on individual budgets.

The October trip will be filmed for a documentary and covered by a press team from France, as well as local media. It is expected that individuals participating in the Last Trip to Canada will save more than half the cost of their prescriptions if filled in the U.S.
