LITCHFIELD – Litchfield seniors are invited to attend the opening of a new senior center at Litchfield Academy Community Building on Friday, Oct. 15, beginning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. Tours of the areas to be used by the seniors will be offered, and there will be door prizes, refreshments and gifts.

The board of selectmen approved the formation of a seven-member Seniors Advisory Committee this year, and the annual town meeting approved a start-up budget. Committee members are Judy Bourget, chairwoman; Sharon Spring, vice chairwoman for activities; Carol Bailey, vice chairwoman for home and health services; Mary Stoddard, secretary; Pat Soboleski, Treasurer; Norm Berube, Transportation and Special Projects, Barbara Clements, public information; and Amy Line, alternate member.

A questionnaire was mailed to the 525 registered voters in the town who were born before 1945 in order to develop programs and activities that would be interesting and fun. Those who did not receive a questionnaire should call 268-2097.

The center plans to be open for senior activities from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays and 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Fridays. The center will be closed on holidays and when there is no school due to bad weather.
