RUMFORD – It’s back to square one for finding a contractor to construct a temporary building for the Fire Department’s new ladder truck.
Both bids were rejected at Thursday night’s selectmen’s meeting, Fire Chief John Woulfe said. Clearer specifications and proof of insurance are among the requirements unmet.
Bids are going out again for construction of a 50-by-16-by-16-foot building, with a due date of Oct. 21. The materials are already at the site. Also, he said, the chosen contractor must agree to complete the work within three weeks.
The concrete pad is already laid for the building, which will be built on a portion of the municipal parking lot at the rear of the fire station along Portland and River streets.
Woulfe said about $20,000 is available for the work.
In other Fire Department matters, selectmen agreed to sign a mutual aid agreement with the town of Woodstock. Woulfe said his department is already in an informal mutual aid agreement with the town. With Thursday’s vote, the agreement will be official.
The board also signed a license for a new coffee house to be operated at Hotel Harris, and it heard a report on the activities at Black Mountain of Maine.
