TURNER – Leavitt Area High School will host an evening with local candidates for the state Legislature on Monday, Oct. 18.
Operation Get Out and Vote will begin at 6 p.m. on the first floor of the school’s A wing, where residents may get refreshments and register to vote.
At 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium, Secretary of State Dan Gwadosky will deliver a keynote speech on the importance of citizens being informed and involved in the election process.
From 6:45 to 8:20 p.m., residents will be divided up by district to ask candidates questions in open forums. Candidates have been encouraged to be prepared to explain their platforms on issues that concern area residents.
The evening will conclude with a presentation by students of a special gift to the candidates for their time and commitment.
Candidates have been invited from from House District 96 (Greene, Turner and Minot), House District 75 (Greene, Turner and Sabattus), House District 81 (Leeds and Livermore Falls), and Senate District 17 (Greene, Leeds and Turner).
Candidates Ken Roberts, Joan B. Deschaines, Scott Lansley, Christos Gianopoulos, Gary Knight, John Nutting, and James Simones have agreed to participate.
