PARIS – Three Region 11 technical school programs will be up for review by the School Improvement Committee this year.

The programs are advanced communications and multimedia, banking, and cooperative education.

Interim Director David Mason said the review is done each year to determine the effectiveness of the programs in meeting the needs of students. The committee will look at enrollment patterns in the programs and whether they meet the needs of the community and prepare students for entry-level employment and higher education.

The committee examines, among other things, job projections in the industry reflected in the program for the next 10 years and the interest level of students.

Region 11 began a program this fall in early childhood education, taught by Eileen Steck.

“It’s going just super,” Mason said. “Students have just started going out to work at day-care centers and schools.”

At the halfyear mark, the improvement committee will assess the early childhood program to determine whether it should be offered as a two-year program, or be kept as a one-year program.

The Region 11 board was expected to meet Thursday with the boards of the sending school districts of SAD 17 and SAD 39 for the annual review and vote on their cooperative agreement.

The agreement, first signed in 1974, defines the terms under which the Oxford Hills Technical School operates.

In 1998, the technical school was combined with the high school to form Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
