LIVERMORE FALLS — Brad Bryant had a phenomenal game Friday night. The senior halfback accounted for 244 of the Livermore Falls Andies 270 total yards, but it was his final yard that will have the hometown folks talking for at least the next two weeks.

With no time outs and just 25.8 ticks left on the clock, Bryant’s third down, 1-yard touchdown run capped a roller coaster-like 13-play, 68-yard scoring drive. Tyler Cote tacked on the PAT and Livermore Falls remained undefeated with a thrilling 14-13 victory over the Lisbon Greyhounds.

“It was now or never,” said Bryant of the winning drive. “This defines us as a team.”

Lisbon’s Levi Ervin snapped a 7-7 tie with his second scoring run of the day as he bulled his way into the end zone from five yards out. The Greyhounds (5-2), however, had to settle for just a six-point lead after the extra point try sailed wide left. There was 4:48 showing on the clock.

Dane Hanson opened the drive by finding Brandon Dyer for a 15-yard reception to the Livermore Falls 47. Four Bryant rushes set up a third-and-3 at the Lisbon 33. From there, Hanson found Bryant along the left sideline for three yards and a first down.

Three plays later, the Andies (7-0) found themselves needing six yards on fourth down. Coach Brad Bishop called for a middle screen to Bryant. The play didn’t exactly start out as it was drawn up. Hanson fumbled the snap from center, but the senior quarterback quickly picked up the ball and sprinted backward. He then dumped the ball over the oncoming defensive line to Bryant who picked up 25 yards to the Lisbon 5 before slipping on the wet grass.

“We hadn’t shown a screen pass all game,” said Bishop. “It’s the first time it’s worked all season.”

Two plays later the Andies called their last time out with the ball resting on the 1. Bryant went off tackle behind the right side for the tying score, his legs churning until the official along the goal line raised his hands.

“He’s got a lot of heart and determination,” said Bishop. “You win with kids like him.”

“I told (my defense) it was a big play,” said Lisbon coach Dick Mynahan of the conversation he had in the end zone during Livermore Falls’ final timeout. “It’s the most important play in football. We were hoping to get (a big stop) there.”

Lisbon quarterback Chris Kates’ desperation heave down the right side landed, fittingly, in the arms of Bryant at the Andie 33.

Bryant’s 64-yard scoring run on the opening play of the game gave Livermore Falls a 7-0 lead.Kates kept the Greyhound offense moving up and down the field with his arm as he passed for 116 yards. Chris Brunick was Kates’ top receiver with seven catches for 86 yards. Three times the two connected to move the chains on third down on the two scoring drives.
