AUBURN – Yvonne Bell Legendre, 91, a longtime resident of Gill Street, New Auburn, died Friday, Oct. 15, at Clover Manor in Auburn, where she had been a resident for the past 13 years.

Born in Lewiston June 22, 1913, she was the daughter of F. Joseph and Alma Dugal Cyr, and moved to Fort Kent with her family at a young age. She was a graduate of Fort Kent High School and Bliss Business College.

On July 17, 1937, she married Herbert Bell, who passed away Dec. 2, 1962. In 1972, she married her second husband, Arthur Legendre, who passed away in November of 1988.

A member of Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, formerly of St. Louis Parish, she also belonged to the Ladies of St. Anne.

She was known for her sense of humor and for being very artistic and creative, excelling at everything from quilting, sewing, and cooking, to furniture refinishing and stenciling.

She also made more than 150 dolls, creating them as gifts and to commemorate family events. Each doll was infused with a bit of her playful personality and have become treasured family heirlooms.

She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Survivors include a son, J. Philip Bell and his wife, Kathleen, of Concord, N.H.; four daughters, Maxine and her husband, Frank Folsom, of Auburn, Colette and her husband, Harold Ayer, of Merrimack, N.H., Lucille and her husband, Don Wyse, of Minot, and Kathryn Bell and her partner, Len Blank, of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, Adrien “Chick” Cyr and his wife, Eileen, of Bristol, Conn.; two sisters, Blanche Jalbert of Brunswick, and Cora and her husband, Keith Jones, of Cedarburg, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Vernon Bell; four brothers, John, Conrad, Normand, and Richard Cyr; and three sisters, Leonie Bourgoin, Fernande Terpak, and Carmen Marquis.
