WILTON – Selectmen plan to appoint a search committee for a new police chief when they meet Tuesday. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the town office.
At their last meeting, officials decided not to hire the Maine Chiefs of Police Association as consultants in the hiring process. Officials and citizens present at the meeting agreed that the town should be able to do the work themselves.
Selectmen Jeff Rowe and Russell Black and Cushing School Principal Paul Gooch have said they will serve on the committee. The 9-member committee will be charged with determining qualifications and job description, advertising and other matters in the hiring process.
In other business, officials will meet with BeeLine Cable Vice-President George Allen to solicit public input on cable television service in Wilton. They will also discuss a franchise agreement renewal.
Officials will consider proposals for solid waste transportation and disposal and set the date for their next meeting. While selectmen generally meet the first and third Tuesday of each month, Nov. 2 is Election Day and an alternative schedule will need to be worked out.
