Scholarship
Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a society of women educators, will award a $300 scholarship this fall. Applicants must be women who have completed their freshmen year of college, are going into teaching, and who come from a town in SAD 17, 21, 39, 43 or 44, Union 21 or the town of Peru. Applicants should submit a letter about their educational background, their plans, and why they believe they’d be a good recipient. The deadline for letters of application is Nov. 13. Tax forum debate
PARIS – The Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce will host a tax forum debate on the upcoming Palesky tax-cap initiative at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21, in the Forum Room of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, Main and Fair streets, Route 26. Carol Palesky, who initiated the tax-cap referendum, and Geoff Herman of the Maine Municipal Association, which opposes the proposal, will be the debaters. Each will have approximately 20 minutes for opening statements, followed by a brief opportunity to react to each other’s comments. Then, a question-and-answer period will use written questions from the audience. The forum is free and open to the public.
