LEWISTON – Advocates for Children will present a nurturing program for parents, their infants, toddlers and preschoolers from 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursdays, Oct. 21 to Feb. 3.

The program is a 15-week series of classes for families to take together with their children. Parents meet separately from children with two trained facilitators, while children participate in self-esteem building activities.

The nurturing program is for any family that wants to get along better, communicate more and feel closer to each other. The program works for all kinds of families: two-parent, single-parent, foster, adoptive and blended families.

The children will develop greater self-esteem, learn positive attitudes and to respect others’ feelings; and to handle stress and anger better.

Parents will learn how to establish nurturing routines for mealtimes, bedtimes and chores; learn to replace yelling with more effective discipline techniques such as redirection, choices and consequences, family rules and praise; gain a sense of personal power and feel good about themselves; and enjoy the family.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Those who would like to participate should contact Advocates for Children at 783-3990.
