OXFORD – L.L. Bean Inc. has hired 220 temporary workers since announcing it was opening an Oxford call center eight weeks ago.
“They’re very happy with the response,” said Barb Olson, vice president of the Growth Council of Oxford Hills.
But while the response has been good, the catalog retailer still needs to hire at least 100 more people to take Christmas orders at the former ICT Group building on Route 26.
The company is holding a job fair next Monday, Oct. 25, from noon to 4 p.m. at the South Paris Career Center at 232 Main St., Paris.
Olson said that while taking applications for the telephone-based jobs, the company has identified many people who could work at its Freeport distribution facility. As a result, the company has decided to provide free bus service to people in the Oxford Hills who want to work temporarily at the distribution center doing packing, gift boxes or monogram support.
The jobs, which pay $9.41 an hour plus $1 an hour nighttime premium, start at the end of November and run through mid-December.
As with the call center workers, the distribution employees receive discounts on L.L. Bean purchases and access to the employee store in Freeport.
“This is the final push to hire what they need,” Olson said. “If people have been thinking about” applying for a temporary job at L.L. Bean, “now is the time.”
