Lewiston – Dr. Vincent Herzog has begun seeing patients as a rehabilitation and EMG (nerve testing) consultant, by physician referral, at the WorkMed offices at 77 Bates St.

Physiatry, also called physical medicine and rehabilitation, is a branch of medicine that specializes in diagnosis, treatment and management of disease primarily using “physical” means (such as physical therapy and medications). Essentially, physiatrists specialize in a wide variety of conservative treatments for the musculoskeletal system (the muscles and bones) and do not perform surgery.

Electrodiagnostic medicine, occupational health, and second opinions are among Herzog’s areas of special interest, as are the osteopathic principles of medicine.

Herzog is a graduate of Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He served his internship at Flint Osteopathic Hospital, and his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatry), and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (nerve testing).

Herzog is on staff at numerous hospitals in southern and central Maine. He is on the faculty of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he has been active in teaching medical students since 1993. He developed and operates Maine Rehabilitative Healthcare in Scarborough, a full-service physiatry practice.
